Birmingham Bug Blast winners

Last weekend the NAVWC cruised down to Tannehill State Park in Birmingham for the 11th annual Bug Blast. There were lots of beautiful cars and the NAVWC was well represented. So well in fact, that we won “Most Represented Club!”

Several members of the NAVWC also won individual awards:

2013 Birmingham Bug Blast – May 11

Don’t forget, the 11th AnnualCAVWC Birmingham Bug Blast is right around the corner! It will be held May 11, 2013 in Tannehill State Park in McCalla, AL. Blue Suede Cruise – May 3-5, 2013

A new event, Blue Suede Cruise, has just been added to the Events calendar.

The 2013 Blue Suede Cruise is scheduled for May 3 – May 5, 2013. Full of antique and classic cars*, and drivers head back to the ’50s and ’60s with classic car shows and contests, an awesome Swap Meet and Car Corral, exciting entertainment, and fun for the whole family!

Falls Mill Cruise – April 6th

The weather is warming up and it’s time to hit the road and go get some donuts! The Cruise to Falls Mill has been rescheduled for April 6. We will still assemble in the Publix parking lot at the corner of Winchester and Homer Nance at 9AM and leave at 9:30AM.

Cost of the museum tour is $4 for adults, seniors $3, and children under 14 $2.

We will also visit the Swiss Pantry nearby for snacks. They make fresh glazed, chocolate, and maple doughnuts on the 1st Saturday of every month!

Earth Fare Car Show – March 19th

The event coordinator for the Earth Fare in Huntsville has invited us to a car show they’re having on March 19th for their “Good Ole days” event. At the event you can get ½ of a whole chicken with gravy, mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables for $7.99. There will also be a local brewery taste testing, fifties attire, fifties movie playing in our café and hula hoop contests. The car show will be people’s choice. It will be family oriented and a lot of fun.

The date is Tuesday March 19th 4-7:30. Can’t tell from her email, but I don’t think there is an entry fee.

Mardi Gras Parade in Decatur

The NAVWC has been invited to participate in the 2nd annual Carnegie Carnival and Parade on February 9. It will be held in downtown Decatur on 2nd Avenue and Bank Street. Mark and Diane from the Mellow Mushroom have paid the entrance fee so club members are free to participate in the parade with their VWs! The fun starts at 10 AM with a Red Beans and Rice cook-off and there will be parades throughout the day. The main parade starts at 6pm. Our condolences to Airkooled Kustom’s Floyd

Some of you may know Floyd up at Airkooled Kustoms. His wife had been struggling with cancer last year and we learned last night that she lost the struggle and passed away this week.

Floyd and family will receive visitation at Laughlins Funeral Home between 5-7:00 PM on Wednesday, Jan 9th. Funeral will be 2:00 PM Friday at “Church of Nativity” in Huntsville and graveside in Maplehill Cemetary in Huntsville, AL. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Mells Fox Hounds, c/o Joy Smith, Mells Fox Hounds.

If you missed the Christmas Parade this year or you just want to relive it all over again, you’ll have three chances to catch it on TV this month.

The Christmas Parade will be broadcast on channel 31 (ABC) as follows:

December 16th 1:00pm
December 23rd 1:00pm
December 25th 5:00am

2012 WAAY-31 Christmas Parade

The 36th Annual WAAY 31 Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, December 1st at noon. The NAVWC will once again be represented in this year’s parade. If you’d like to be in the parade with us, please contact Todd and let him know that you will be driving (and how many cars).

We will be meeting at 9AM in the back parking lot of First Baptist Church on Governors drive. We will get something to eat and be at the staging area by 10AM. The parade leaves the staging area at 12 noon so dress accordingly. If you are attending please bring stuff to decorate your car. The theme this year is A Christmas Story.
